Daufuskie Island Historic Jewerly Collection

I have always been a lover of History. Its been said many
times that if you forget your History you are in a "sorry state".
Well when you live on Daufuskie Island where land grants were laid
out by the British Crown in the early 1700's, and love looking for
artifacts you are in "pig heaven".Well before I became enthralled
with wire wrapping I would scour the Island's former cotton Plantations
that were the backbone of Southern living prior to the Civil War.
There were ten of them, all marveleous and beautiful with the
"big house" being the focal point. There I would find all sorts
of "pieces of the past" pottery, glass and porcelin chards.
I would admire each and every piece before storing them away in a
drawer. Occassionaly I would bring them out always commenting to
my Bride Mary how wonderful they would look as a piece of jewerly.
Well now we know. An ancient form of jewerly making
called wire wrapping has come into my life. Without sodder or molds I
fashion each piece with strands of wire....in many cases as long as
three feet.

A dear Friend and avid Civil War collector told me years ago "Joe...
all we are...are Keepers of the Past". So now its your time to be a
"Keeper Of The Past". Its time for me to pass a piece of my
personal collection of prize finds to you. And then when the time comes
for you to pass it to a future generation. Somehow it just seems like
the proper thing to do.
